Osteoporosis is often referred to as the “Silent Disease”. While Osteoporosis is more common in women than men secondary to hormonal changes, it is also seen as a side effect of medications that contain steroids.

Our osteoporosis program utilizes exercises taken from research studies and incorporates specific weight training exercises at the correct intensity, weight-bearing exercises, balance and postural exercises. Our program would not be complete without addressing the importance of a home exercise program and an educational component. The main components include an evidence-based exercise prescription program, manual therapy, taping, pain control, education and a home program with follow-up. Utilizing such a program has been shown in research to increase or maintain bone mineral density when compared to control groups who did not exercise.

Osteoporosis is multifactorial, and we strongly urge our clients to access as many resources as possible. While we know that exercise alone can offer great value, combining it with nutritional, hormonal or medication regimes may also add benefits.
